Restoration Hardware Bassinet Review

When I was pregnant with Emersyn, I used to daydream about a gorgeous, wicker Restoration Hardware bassinet. I would pin photos of nurseries with the sweet basket draped with white linens – I adored it. But, when I looked for reviews I found none. I wanted to know if it was just a beautiful heirloom piece, or if it was also a great place for a baby to sleep. I hope that this practical review will show you it is both.

First things first, we purchased our bassinet on Facebook Marketplace. The couple never ended up using it because they also had a Snoo bassinet. I highly recommend looking on used sites for a bassinet, or any baby items for that matter. I often find brand-new or gently-used baby gear because babies and parents are picky, speaking from experience. 😉 Sometimes people are gifted more than they need or an item just didn’t work out. We bought the bassinet, which includes the top basket, rolling stand, shelf and mattress, along with two white linen sheets, a bumper and a skirt for $200. If you love a good deal like me, you may be squealing! However, knowing how much I loved and used this bassinet, I would pay full price.

When we took it home and set it up in our room, I loved it. It is not an eye sore to have out in your bedroom like some bassinets. It is also a decent size, and did not take up too much room. But, the real test would be how Emersyn enjoyed it when she joined us.

Emersyn slept very well in the bassinet for three months by our bed. At three months, we transitioned her to her crib and began using the bassinet just as a safe place to set her when we were doing chores, taking a shower or something like that. We swaddled Emersyn for every nap and at night and felt very safe with her in the bassinet. It is a traditional, hard mattress, which is safest for babies. I did use the bumper because she was not rolling in her sleep yet.

It was nice to have two sheets, because you will need to quickly change them at some point for pee or spit up – babies are messy. All the linen pieces were easy to take off and wash, and did very well on cold water and a delicate drying cycle. I loved the shelf underneath the basket, which is hidden by the skirt. I kept a diaper caddy of diapers, wipes, a changing pad and nightlight, which was so nice to have nearby.

The bassinet also has wheels, which we used to roll it from room to room. We kept it upstairs in our home, but would use it in the office, our room and the nursery. I even wheeled it into the bathroom a few times to keep an eye on her.

The last little feature worth mentioning is the sun shade or the overhang on the basket. It came in handy to shade Emmy during daytime naps.

For us, the simplicity was perfect. She slept right next to me, with nothing in the bassinet. I was so nervous as a first-time parent, but I think this bassinet is safe place for any baby to sleep, if you don’t add loose blankets, pillows, etc. A Snuggle Me Organic fits perfectly inside, but I only used that once or twice for a nap, and never at night. That’s completely up to you mama, but it made me too nervous. A Dock-A-Tot would be too large for this bassinet.

Also, the top basket is removable, so you can easily set it on the floor or in the living room, etc. if you need a safe place to set your baby. I still have the bassinet set up in our room for times like that, but I plan to pack it away in a dust bag after she can’t fit in it anymore. I hope our next baby will love it as much as she did. Please leave any questions you have in the comments – I would be more than happy to answer them.
