What’s in my toddler diaper bag

With every stage Emmy goes through, our diaper bag necessities change. Today I’m showing you what I pack for a full day out. I try to prep for big days ahead of time so I don’t forget anything in the chaos of getting out the door with a toddler.

I had a desire to feel more like myself again and carry a purse, rather than a traditional diaper bag. So, I’ve recently been using a ToteSavvy Original insert along with a Tory Burch tote bag. You can use a ToteSavvy insert with any bag you have. I love that it makes toting around toddler gear feel a bit more stylish. Anyways, let’s dive in!

diaper bag packed full of baby items

Diapers and wipes. First, and most importantly, I have at least four diapers and a full package of wipes. I heard that you should have one diaper for every hour you’re out, and that has been a good rule of thumb for us. We’ve used Pampers since Emmy was a newborn.

Changing pad. It’s always great to have a clean place to change diapers. The ToteSavvy comes with a built-in changing pad that is Velcroed to the bottom. A swaddle or blanket will do the trick if you don’t have a changing pad. Where’s the craziest place you have had to change a diaper? I’ve had to change Emmy on a stadium bathroom floor (yuck!) and the trunk of our car a lot, which I think is pretty normal.

Snacks. Toddlers need ALL the snacks! I usually pack as many as I can fit in, and a few varieties to keep her happy while we are out and about. Some staples are pouches, soft bars, crackers, Cheerios, etc. Don’t forget to pack a snack for yourself too!

Sippy cup. Emmy drinks water during the day. At this point, she can pretty much use any sippy or straw cup. I like the RePlay cups because they are truly leakproof and don’t need a lid. If we were traveling near bedtime, I would place a bottle of milk in the insulated pocket, or an empty bottle and grab milk from a restaurant or store.

Toys. Today I have a library book and a Fisher-Price toy. I try to switch up what I grab, so she doesn’t get as bored. By the way, this book Wonderful Babies is so precious and simple – Emmy loves it.

Sunscreen and hat. Now that warmer days are approaching, I have started keeping sunscreen and a little hat in my bag.

Hand sanitizer. A must for after diaper changes, after we leave the store, etc.

Change of clothes. Emmy hasn’t needed a change of clothes in a long time, but sure as shoot the day I don’t pack it, she will need it. I simply put a long-sleeve onesie in there because it’s warming up, but when she was a newborn, I would pack a full outfit change.

Mom’s necessities. Of course, I also have a few things for myself, including my wallet, lip gloss, sunglasses, keys, etc.

Bib and placemat. I like to pack a disposable placemat for Emmy in case we eat out. You just peel and stick this directly to the table and it helps keep her food safe and helps with clean-up at the end. Right now, eating out with Emmy is tough! I personally thought it was much easier in the infant days when she would sleep or sit in my lap. Now, she doesn’t want to be contained for that long. Send your tips, mamas!
